Wed June 16th: Greetings to browsers from the Getman anniversary fair. We’re currently transitioning our main website to this new design; so the offerings seen here (from the last Printed Matter Virtual Art Book Fair) are skewed towards avant-garde materials and artist ephemera. We also specialize in the human sciences and design history. You can subscribe to our email list to receive notice of future updates ...

Photos de film (Grimace) 1962-1967.
Paris: Ed. Claude Givaudan, circa 1967.

#17281. Extra-large poster (95 x 64 cm.), composed of 180 stills from Erró’s black-and-white 16 mm. documentary film Grimaces. Moderate creasing to edges, and a few buckles, as typical for this over-sized print; professional linen-backing available at cost.

A remarkable group-portrait of the avant-garde, issuing from the first film of Icelandic artist Erró, who asked fellow artists, poets, gallery owners, and critics to grimace into his camera throughout his travels (1962-1967).

Of the 180 portraits composing this poster-prospectus, we find: Adami, Alechinsky, Alloway, Arman, Ay-o, Baj, Bat-Yosef, Beguier, Bertini, Breer, Castellani, Caulfield, Cesar, Christo, Dine, Duchamp, Dufrêne, Filliou, Grisi, Hamilton, Higgins, Hundertwasser, Iolas, Jouffroy, Kowalski, Lam, Lebel, Lichtenstein, Lurie, Man Ray, Matta, Oldenburg, Pistoletto, Pol Bury, Rosenquist, Rotella, Schneemann, Schwarz, Stampfli, Soto, Spoerri, Stella, Tancredi, Takis, Tilson, Ursula, Vostell, Warhol, Wesselmann, and Emmett Williams (with a handful of individuals presenting multiple grimaces).

See here for the book adaptation, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the film’s screening at MoMA.
